Mercedes Hood Strap Install
How many times have you gone to open the hood of a 123 body Mercedes and found either the hood strap missing or some type of rig job sitting there? Maybe your hood has a rigged up piece of wire sticking through the grill instead of the hood strap. This is no way to treat the car. This procedure is very easy to do and is a cheap fix. I will also show you how to get the hood up even if the strap is missing. So follow along as we do this repair.......
Safety and security tips:
Please remember to recycle all your used fluids at an appropriate recycling center. Be mindful to not spill or splash fluids on yourself, others or the ground. Also as a safety tip please remember anytime you are working on, around or under your car, to wear safety glasses and secure the car with wheel stops and approved jack stands!
This the dieselgiant.com hood release strap that we will be installing.
You go to open the hood and find there is no strap...oh my what to do? How do I get the
hood open without it????
It should pop out to greet you when you pull the inside handle but its not there...no one is home.
To get the hood open make sure you have pulled the inside handle release on the driver side
kick panel.....
Take a long skinny flat bladed screwdriver and stick it though the grill to the side of where
the strap would stick through.
This is where the screwdriver will be getting to, then you will move the hood release.
See how much the hood release hook has moved to release the hood from the core support.
Then you can lift up the hood. Note always lift a Mercedes hood by the bottom of the grill
never by the strap.
Access to the broken strap. We will be removing the e clip holding the strap to the hook.
Just pop off the clip.
Then slide the pin out the other side.
New strap next to the broken old one.
Slide the new strap on making sure that is inserted into the grill first, then on the hood hook
then insert the pin though the assembly.
Then reinstall the e clip back on the pin.
When the hood is released the hood strap should pop out of the grill.
Then pull out the strap but don't lift the hood by the strap it will break. Lift the hood by the bottom
of the grill never by the strap.
Enjoy!
